Pulse

Every line has a heartbeat

A market being repriced has a rhythm. Pulse is the board that makes that rhythm visible: what is moving, how fast, which book moved first, how long the gap is likely to last, and whether any of it clears a threshold worth calling an opportunity.

Illustrative demoEvery number on this page is invented sample data on a fixed snapshot. This is not a market feed, not a price you can take, and not an offer.

The trace

Board activity across the sampled hour

This is a composite of how many sampled books repriced and how far apart their numbers drifted, indexed 0 to 100. The spikes are not decoration: each one is a cluster of books moving at once, which is when lagging quotes appear and also when they disappear fastest.

Quiet

Pulse 0-34

Few books are repricing and dispersion is narrow. Numbers here are usually settled; disagreement is more likely to be an error than an opportunity.

Active

Pulse 35-64

Routine repricing. The market is working through ordinary information and prices are converging at a normal rate.

Repricing

Pulse 65-100

A cluster of books is moving at once and dispersion is widening. This is where lagging quotes appear, and also where they disappear fastest.

BET, WAIT, and PASS are descriptions

These label what the model concluded about a price. They are not instructions, and there is no button anywhere on this site that places a wager.

BET

BET

The estimated edge clears the playable threshold and has held long enough to be treated as signal rather than noise.

WAIT

WAIT

There is an apparent edge, but it is inside the uncertainty band, moving quickly, or resting on a single disagreeing book.

PASS

PASS

No edge survives de-vigging, or the market has already absorbed whatever the model saw.

Why this wording matters

A row labelled BET means the demo model's estimated edge cleared a demo threshold on invented prices. It does not mean a bet is available, that the price is real, or that acting on it would make money. VigPulse sells no picks and gives no betting advice.

Sample rows. Prices are invented and no book named here is a real sportsbook.

Edge is the gap between the model fair probability and the probability implied by the current price, in percentage points. EV is expected value per unit staked at that price. Both are computed from the prices in the same row using the same functions as the public calculators.

Movement

Velocity, divergence, and reversal

A price change is not self-explanatory. The same two-cent move can be information, money, or a book managing its own risk, and telling them apart is most of the work.

Velocity

points / minute

How fast implied probability is moving. A market drifting a hundredth of a point per minute and one moving ten times that are different objects, even if they end up at the same number.

Divergence

2 flagged

One book separating from consensus is the entire basis of most rows that score well. It is also the most fragile: a single quote can be a mistake, a stale number, or a limit nobody can reach.

Flagged in this sample: BOS -1.5, SD F5 ML.

Reversal

1 flagged

A market that moves and then retraces through its starting point is usually saying the first move was wrong, was a limit adjustment, or was one bettor rather than a signal.

A reversal lowers confidence. It is a reason to score a row down, not a reason to act faster.

First movers

Which book moved first, and who followed

The order books move in carries information the final price does not. A book that consistently leads is doing its own work; a book that follows three minutes later is copying.

Stale books

2 in sample

A book that stops updating leaves a frozen number behind. That number often looks like the best price on the board, and treating it as real is one of the easiest ways to fool yourself.

Information events

What the board was reacting to

Scheduled information is the most predictable repricing trigger in baseball. Lineups land at a known time, and the market moves when they do.

Sampled events

fixed snapshot
  1. 17:55Lineup · BOS / TB · high impact

Home lineup posted. Lineup releases are the most common scheduled repricing trigger in baseball.

  2. 17:50Lineup · SEA / HOU · high impact

Two regulars out of the sample lineup; the board reacted and then partially retraced.

  3. 17:44Pitching · SD / COL · medium impact

Bullpen availability note. First-five markets react to this more than full-game markets do.

  4. 17:40Weather · BOS / TB · medium impact

Wind shift toward left field. Weather moves totals far more than it moves moneylines.

  5. 17:25Data · Board · low impact

One sampled book stopped updating and was flagged stale rather than treated as the best price.

  6. 17:12Pitching · BOS / TB · low impact

Probable starter confirmed with no change from the morning card. A non-event, logged anyway.

Edge half-life

18 min

An edge is not a fixed quantity waiting to be collected. It decays as the market absorbs whatever produced it. Half-life is the estimate of how fast.

Estimated edge decayAn estimated edge of 1.84 percentage points halving every 18 minutes: about 0.92 points after 18 minutes and about 0.46 points after 36 minutes. Synthetic illustration.0m18m36m54m1.80.9

On this sample row, an estimated 1.84-point edge is worth roughly 0.46 points 36 minutes later, whether or not anyone acted.
